Educational Publishing Relationship Manager

(fixed-term, flexible contract)

We are seeking an Educational Publishing Relationship Manager to help us develop our growing online resourcing directory. This is an exciting opportunity to work closely with the ELT Publishing Professionals team to develop the directory specifically within the area of educational publishing. We are looking for an experienced and well-respected educational publishing professional with a sound knowledge of the sector and with an excellent network. Could this be you, or someone you know?

Key responsibilities to include:

  • Identifying and drawing up a list of the main UK educational publishers/packagers.
  • Preparing promotional and presentation materials for educational publishers/packagers.
  • Making contact with the educational publishers/packagers in order to develop a relationship and introduce the directory, arrange meetings to discuss it and/or give promotional presentations. 
  • Following up with publishers/packagers and reporting back on their response.
  • Assisting publishers to subscribe to the directory and training them on the use of its functionality.
  • Working with our social media manager to create a social media and mailing marketing programme designed to reach educational freelancers and raise their awareness of the directory, eg by outlining post ideas that include and/or or directly appeal to the target educational sector and compiling lists of relevant social media pages, groups, forums, etc and becoming active in those forums on our behalf.
  • Reviewing and giving feedback on our public-facing image, website and current membership experience and optimising these with the addition of the educational sector in mind.
  • Contributing to the planning of the 2024 Freelancers’ Awayday programme and related marketing to ensure that it is inclusive of those in the educational sector.
  • Attending regular meetings with the ELT Publishing Professionals team to set goals, report on progress and develop specific strategies to achieve agreed aims.

Key skills and qualities:

  • Experience of working in-house for one or more educational publishing houses.
  • Experience of working as a freelancer in the educational field.
  • A strong professional network.
  • Familiarity with and experience of industry sector-specific conferences.
  • Experience of leading meetings and giving presentations to groups.
  • Some marketing experience would be advantageous.
  • Confident, self-motivated, flexible and organised.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to write engaging promotional materials, blog posts, mailings, social media posts, etc.

The contract involves approximately 150 hours of work to be carried out over a negotiable period, starting ideally in January 2024. Working hours can be scheduled flexibly and the role can be fulfilled remotely. We are offering competitive remuneration through a combination of an hourly rate plus an incentives arrangement. The package (fee plus incentives) totals approximately £7,500.
